Baseball, sun, and wild horses

Spent most of the day at the park watching kids play. My daughter's team was smoking them. We all got caught up in the close game, people screaming all the way around (cheering). Everyone likes to win. People are sure designed to be competative in nature. Horses not so. The compete for mares, and fight to stay alive, but the heard has no need to win....

Fezzik had a great day riding in chaos. He was loping pretty good circles, starting to understand poles and sidepassing. He is still not sure of the kids running everywhere, but doing better.

Ini was walking forward again, and I finally asked for a trot, he walked fast...I chose the best spot asked agin, and he trotted three unsure steps...and stopped. Amazing...It is amazing. I am between pacing myself and teaching at his pace and pushing for a competition again...I heard Brady fire up the chain saw and decided to call it a day.

AHHHreat happens! in the sense of the sound when something really g

Glory be Inigo moved forward straight as an arrow! It happened. I work up feeling sick as a dog...good and feverish. After getting through mommy duties I feed horses, and colapsed. I feel right outside the arena to take a nap while they ate. I really wasn't feeling great. I decided I had to work horses. The weather was perfect and warm, the kids were in school.

I got Inigo out, groomed, saddled, picked all four feet with ease. I led him down and led him over jumps did some yeilding and though oh who cares get on and do your turns. I did and low and behold foot by foot we were moving slow kinda forward. I pulled his head straight and with tons of pets he relaxed. I asked for forward he thought and walked forward a sticky 6 straight steps. I managed about ten more steps. Then 7 more. Baby steps. I was so excited I really heard the trupets go off. I yelled for Jenn.."Can you see this?" And forward straight relaxed we walked forward a whole lap. I was so excited I got off tied him up and let him rest a few minutes, he was excited as I was to walk again. We walked several laps. Me smiling and I really think he was too.

I was so happy he got to go out in the round pen...Stacie you know I had to call you right away!Later in the day The farrier came and was able to trim all four feet with ease. He had one quick panic attack when the farrier (Dave Theims touched his tummy), but settled and recovered well, Dave did too.

Fezzik was all work and awsome from the start! Able to use the whole arena..Walk, trot, and canter. Fantastic. We did more gound poles at a walk and trot to work on balance and awareness of his feet. I was still on a high with Inigo's sucess, so relaxed and happy. Fezzik jogs like a dream, and lopes just as nice...smooth. He is doing well riding up to indoor after riding too. We did our first Figure 8's with simple changes, two in he was anticipating. For a lazy horse he is full of try. (reminds me of Weston) All heart. Inigo has talent, Fezzik has heart. He really sweat well, so I tried some molassis slow roll backs. Fun. Then I thought he might like a rise off as it was hot and he was sweaty. He has not been found of water...however a few minutes in he was standing well in it...every hot day he will get rinsed to let him learn to enjoy it...Fezzik also got all four feet trimmed today by Dave. He was a good boy, except mauling the stand....Dave left me a stand to practice with...yippy!

Fun fun day...whew.

Flying Fezziks....

Last Sunday Fezzik had the oportunity to take his first arena ride away from here. To the tune of 97.00 for a lesson with Brent Hicks (dressage Guru). It was great to take him but he was really not ready to do more than walk and trot. Lots of great stops. Only a few minor tantrums  quickly ended. He was very good. Brent was a good spirit about it all.

Now we are able to lope and job laps around the outdoor arena. Third ride there today and he was great. We set up jumps for a lesson student. Okay we could not resist..he tried...He was so fun. Relaxed and slept in the sun while she worked. When it was his turn he was all ears. He jumps like two horses..frount end...pause hind end. He does not stop moving it is just so fun we were all in stiches. Than we headed out for his first trail ride. I lead him in the scarey spots, and rode the hills and easy spots. He handled it great. The boys feild makes him want to burst away and be wild once again. What ever he says to the herd they want nothing to do with him.

Inigo walked a forward circle in the outdoor...yep that's it. Actually I have to say he is very calm about saddleing, great about picking all four feet allows his tail to be brushed now. Likes baths. Is easy to handle and soft. Willing and full of try...

Good ride cowgirl good ride!

Fezzik had a greta day today! He now walks and trots freely and is able to turn while trotting. He is really gaining balance. He is just starting to yeild to my legs and think. I am asking him (as we do of all horses) to forget his instincts, let go trust me stop thinking for yourself, but think listen and respond quick to me. I am always blown away that they do. He was able to trot over poles. We are starting his canter. It takes about a full lap or two of large trot queing him. Him trying to balance and pick it up. I realized when I watch him loose he throws his head down to canter on his own and he is not very good at it. I have never seen him do more than three stides on his own. He was doing a good three or more strides head up. I am very proud of him. He is very soft and learning so much on the ground.

Inigo was great today, inch by inch. He was silly on the ground. He got it together. He did not want to yeild. Funny to have my soft horse begin to relax and resist me, as my heavey horse gets softer.

Each horse not unlike childern learn how they learn and on their own time line-NOT OURS! Inigo was here to remind me. He is so smart and quick, but needs to learn scarey things slowly. He was quiet while I mounted him, we walked our tight circles, with a few orward steps...then he pulled his own head straight put his head down licked and chewd and relaxed...he is getting better but we are a long ways from training on the rail... One day at a time, one ride at a time and one horse at a time. You know the wives tail about trying to ride two at once. It refers to going two directions at a time, I like to think of it as a great reminder..even if it feels the same each horse is unique and deserves to be treated and trained that way.

Inigo and I are stuck in mud...at least it is not concrete. He really makes huge strides daily, and he is so fun to watch move...Awe inspiring and as nice as my friessian, no kidding. We are circling barly moving forward and he really wants to buck the whole time...I have a sad face today for him. He will get there, but I just don't know if he can do it on man's schedual. We are buzy pushy demanding creatures are we not.

Fezzik was a rock star. I was not feeling well or up to riding, and was coming up with excuses all day not to. Then at 8:40 I headed back up knowing I had to blanket them. I saddled up and sat up on him in the shaddow filled spooky arena. We walked both ways he seemed excited. That is not very Fezzik like. I decided after a week of no bit to try a combo bit...He was so soft and wonderful in it. We were jogging laps and figure 8's in the spooking dark half lit arena. I decided to try the poles, he loves rearanging them so much. I sit up there and he uses his feet to arrange them how he would like to have them to go over them. Today was the first time I felt like we were really riding, not just starting out!

What do I do to horses..lol.

Jennifer keeps asking what I do to horses, the hear my voice and gravitate towards me. I can tell you the answer now, but I shall have to kill you if you!Just kidding. I know they look for me, but I am looking at them too.

Whatdo I do to horses? I fall in love with every one of them. Enjoying their abilities, and accepting their flaws and limitations. It is a process, some take me longer than others. Of course my mental state makes this happen faster or slower. Is there a whole in your heart? Did you suffer a loss, are you ready for love? It is no different than dateing!

Noticing one another. Hanging out together, having fun, and when you don't you avoid one another. You make choices and changes or seperate. So many times we are not open to the love horses have to give, we are angry or scared, or loving someone else until there is no need for the horse.

I love Fezzik, and Inigo...how will I let them go. Will they be ready, I have no idea. I thought Buttercup was in no way ready!
